Kitsilano yoga classes stretch out for kids
Vancouver's latest yoga studio caters to children and families.
On a recent Tuesday evening, my son was a lion and I was a laughing hyena.
Together we took a family class at Yoga Buttons, the city's newest yoga studio and one of the few that caters to children and teens.
As a group, we worked to come up with a symbolic pose for the animal we each chose. There were horses, hippos, dragons and cobras. It was great to see the excitement build as sounds and facial expressions were added to the standard physical representation of each pose.

Elevator Pitch: Describe your business in a nutshell.
YogaButtons is Vancouver's first and only kids and family yoga studio. YogaButtons inspires playful imaginations and active bodies through yoga – for all ages. The studio offers drop-in prenatal, baby, kids (ages 2 to teens), family, specialized adult and private classes. Kids birthday parties, private classes and kids yoga seasonal camps are also offered. Outside of the studio, I present kids yoga workshops and talks for educators at schools, post secondary institutions and conferences. YogaButtons runs in-school yoga programs to supplement the physical education curriculum.

Yoga for Kids of all Ages at YogaButtons
Down dog, pigeon, frog, cat, cow ... if you've practiced yoga before you will know what I am talking about. I'm describing your average 90 minute practice of yoga. While to me getting into 'pigeon' means the reward of open hips, to my son it means something entirely different. After visiting YogaButtons, Vancouver's newest studio dedicated to yoga for kids and families, I don't know if I'll ever take myself so seriously again.
